He was so far above it all that not even the eyes and ears of the Trekhin could follow.

The air was crisp and silent like death, but his chest felt tight. In his negligence, or arrogance, he'd foolishly disregarded the sensation as a consequence of the thin air. It wasn't until thoughts of Leaf found him that it became obvious what the real culprit was.

He'd expected so much more from his gift. He thought it would bring him closer to belonging, but all it really did was help him move further away. He was alone, and she was far away, and it hurt more than he could admit to himself.
